Scope
This guide covers basic principles, methods, and experience for designing 110 kV to 1000 kV alternating current (ac) overhead transmission lines. The guide may also be used as a reference for the design of lower-voltage overhead transmission lines. This guide includes an introduction, definitions, meteorological design and criteria, electrical design, structural design criteria, design of foundations, experiment results, and design experience. This guide is a listing of the information and procedures that are required during the design of overhead ac transmission line. It provides guidance for transmission line designers in the data collection design stage.
Purpose
This guide applies to the design of ac overhead transmission lines and gives primary methods for electrical, structural, and foundation design. The transmission line designer can choose the appropriate design methods based on the location, ambient conditions, and importance of the line.
