About This Item
Full Description
Describes a new algorithm for a self-tuning controller in which a discrete time process transfer function is calculated from the wave form of a periodic oscillation obtained with a relay feedback tuning experiment. Gives the design of general linear discrete time controller using pole placement based on input-output models. The sampling period and the desired closed-loop poles are determined automatically with respect to the process dynamics. The desired closed-loop performance also easily be modified by the operator. States the new algorithm has worked well on many different processes in HVAC systems. Illustrates this with experimental results from two different HVAC control applications. States that with the algorithm a substantial reduction in commissioning time can be achieved compared with manual tuning of conventional controllers.
