Describes a network architecture that represents a first attempt by Japanese industry of providing a practical means of supporting the network of HVACR systems and all related equipment. States that by providing for flexible interconnection of HVACR equipment of different types and capacities, the network makes it possible to configure the optimum system to meet the needs of the individual user. It is a hierarchical, distributed-control architecture, configured so that a fault in an upper-layer controller will not cause the entire system to fail. The core of the network, the communications protocol, features high-level control that includes the exchange of control, measurement and fault data between controllers to provide a preventive maintenance capability. In addition, standard hardware and software (communication control devices, display controllers, gateway controllers, communication procedures etc.) improve the efficiency of system development, testing and installation.
