Full Description

As groundwater resources become increasingly overtaxed, there is a need to provide alternative water sources. In some areas of the US such as Florida, surface water availability varies seasonally. Thus, one option for preserving groundwater supplies is to substitute surface water during the time of the year when it is available. This paper is a case study of the use of an interconnect to provide treated surface water to an isolated portion of a distribution system that had previously been served only by groundwater. Intensive testing was conducted to evaluate microbial water quality and identify potential corrosion impacts associated with using multiple water sources in an isolated portion of a distribution system.
