About This Item
Full Description
As thermal storage systems involving phase change materials gain some degree of acceptability, it becomes necessary for research to consider new and innovative directions. Of particular interest are solid/solid, form stable phase transitions. This can be achieved by novel concepts of pelletization, such as silicon coated metallic eutectics. Other possibilities include electron irradiation of crystalline polymers. Dual storage systems, which can keep both heat and chill, are an intriguing concept. In the area of thermal transport, slurries of phase change materials present interesting prospects. Eventually, solid state radiative heat pumps may be coupled with latent heat absorbers to equalize temperatures with little extra input. These will be among the research concepts discussed, giving a glimpse of future building technology.
