Full Description

An immersed membrane filtration system (IMFS) was constructed to study thefeasibility of membrane filtration technology for liquid-solid separation inwater and wastewater treatment processes. In the case of applying the IMFS to abiological wastewater treatment process, so-called membrane bioreactor (MBR),aeration underneath membrane modules is usually employed in order to provideoxygen demand for microbial growth as well as to control membrane fouling. Aseries of experimental results showed that the pattern and intensity of hydraulicmixing driven by lifting air bubbles depends on not only aeration intensity butalso system configuration. It was also found that variations of hydrodynamicconditions due to changes of aeration intensity and system configuration have asignificant influence on membrane fouling and critical flux.
