Costa Brava is a coastal resort area located in northeastern Spain that has a tradition of 28 years of planned water resources management. Consorci de la Costa Brava (CCB, Costa Brava Water District) was created in 1971, at the time coastal recreation became fashionable, in order to manage water supply and wastewater sanitation in the 27 towns included in a coastal stretch 200 kilometers south of the Spanish-French border. Although drinking water supply, based on transfers from inland surface water reservoirs, and wastewater treatment and disposal in coastal areas have been the two main activities of CCB for years, planned wastewater reclamation and reuse has become an additional element of water management over the last ten years. The objective of this paper is to discuss the numerous aspects involved in planning, implementing, analyzing, operating and maintaining, and understanding public perception of different wastewater reclamation and reuse projects carried out by CCB over the last ten years.
