About This Item
Full Description
1.1
This Standard applies to face protectors intended for use in ringette. The objective of this Standard is to reduce the risk of injuries to the face and eyes of ringette players through the use of a face protector.
1.2
Ringette is a sport with intrinsic hazards. Participation in ringette implies the acceptance of some risk of injury. Use of a face protector certified under this Standard will not prevent all injuries. When used as intended and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, the use of a face protector certified under this Standard may reduce the frequency and severity of injuries to the face and eyes.
1.3
Two types of face protectors, as defined in Clause 2.1, are considered under this Standard: (a) Type A: a face protector intended for use by persons older than 10 years of age; and (b) Type B: a face protector intended for use by persons 10 years of age or younger.
1.4
This Standard establishes certain mandatory, minimum requirements for ringette face protectors in the following areas: (a) materials used in fabrication; (b) assembly, design, and finish; (c) areas of coverage; (d) optical requirements; (e) stability; (f) impact resistance; (g) penetration resistance; (h) strength and durability; and (i) labels, tags, and markings.
1.5
Performance tests are provided in relation to Items (b)-(h) of Clause 1.4.
