Full Description

The South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA) developed an implemented an automated system to manage main extensions from initial customer inquiry through design, construction, project reporting, and billing. The scope of the project included both contracts administration and records management. The system responds to inquiries regarding project status, insures that all preceding activities are completed prior to milestone events, provides accounting checks, maintains and reports on activities in progress, and compiles and issues periodic activity reports. It works with RWA's automated mapping/facilities management system. Following some background on the administrative process and data flow for main extension work, the author discusses main extension administrative functions under three headings: processing, reporting, and maintenance. Processing is discussed in some detail in terms of data collection, scheduling, monitoring, and billing. Reporting may be accessed two ways: in response to line inquiry or call reports. The goal is to integrate the main extension system with other automated functions: AM/FM, LIMS, automated tap record, financial information management, and workforce management systems. The main extension program is resident on the RWA AM/FM host computer. An outline of hardware and software are given.
