About This Item

Full Description

This class guideline provides a procedure to perform ultimate strength assessment including the effect of whipping, see Sec.3. DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.5 Ch.2 Sec.4 [2.6.2] includes an estimate of the effect of whipping for container ships based on empirical relations (level 1). The procedure may also be used as basis to provide an estimate of the safety margin, which subsequently can be used in assessment of operational measures to improve the safety margin in real operation. It may for instance be used as input to hull monitoring systems, which includes measurements of static and dynamic loads including whipping.

Furthermore, this class guideline provides a procedure to estimate the effect of the wave-induced vibration for the fatigue strength assessment, see Sec.4, and includes an estimate of the effect of whipping and springing for container ships based on empirical relations (level 1). The standard procedures outlined in DNV-CG-0129 may be employed for fatigue strength assessment including the effect of the wave induced vibration.
