Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing an evaluation of mobile point of entry (POE) and point of use (POU) systems, and an evaluation of mobile water treatment. The Expeditionary Unit Water Purifier (EUWP), a mobile water treatment system designed by the Department of Defense using military water quality specs is presented, along with field testing results from Gallup, New Mexico; Lake St. Clair, Michigan; and, Port Hueneme, California. Conclusions were that: EUWP field deployment for pathogen reduction needs to operate with pre-chem, UF, RO, and post-disinfectant providing multiple treatment barriers to maximize removal; 2nd-pass RO component was not evaluated in these studies and may also provide additional removal capability; EUWP UF nylon O-rings may be replaced with Noryl type to reduce warping; Operational issues need reassessment: cleaning/backwashing, determination of DIT (psi/min) control limit for removing UF modules from service; EUWP study reports expected in Autumn of 2008; and, SWTR-LT2 MF/UF pathogen challenge testing will be most practical using modules that incorporate full-scale housing, end cap, seal design components. Otherwise, problems may not be apparent until in the field. Includes tables, figures.
