About This Item

Full Description

Scope and application

This standard is applicable to all types of support structures, fixed or floating, and all types of turbines.

A description of the terms and definitions for a typical tidal turbine can be found in Figure 1-1 and Figure 1-2. The tidal turbine consists of the rotor, nacelle, machinery and foundation with support structure (a rigid structure connected to the seabed through foundation or a floating structure, mooring and anchors). These definitions will be used in this standard.

This standard gives requirements for the following:

— design principles

— selection of material and extent of inspection in manufacturing yard

— design loads

— load effect analyses

— load combinations

— structural design

— machinery design

— electrical system

— control and instrumentation

— corrosion protection

— mooring and anchoring

— power cable design

— manufacturing and testing of systems and components

— transport and installation

— commissioning

— in-service inspection, maintenance and monitoring

— power performance.

The impact of deployment in array configuration on the areas listed above is addressed in this standard. This is limited to the data available at the time of publishing this standard.

Guidance on risk assessment is provided. Tidal turbines that have aspects not included in the generic technology assessment in App.A are to be risk assessed based on the risk assessment approach described in [1.10].
