Full Description

To improve disinfection barriers for Cryptosporidium inactivation, Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) decided to perform a comprehensive ozone process evaluation and conceptual design of ozone upgrades for its five water treatment plants (WTPs). Four of these WTPs will require ozone retrofits of conventional treatment process trains, while the fifth plant (Waterworks Park) will be replaced by a new treatment plant, which will include a new intermediate (or settled water) ozone facility designed for Cryptosporidium inactivation. This paper presents the results of the ozone process evaluation, including the development of process design criteria for Cryptosporidium inactivation for the DWSD plants.
