Interactive design blends multiple perspectives and develops consensus on solutions. Defining user needs is the first and most critical step in developing a quality computer system. Interactive design uses structured workshops to elicit information from users and develop system specifications in a compressed time frame. Interactive design works in concert with analytical methodologies and computer aided software engineering (CASE) tools. Interactive design is a generic term also known as joint application design, joint requirements definition, rapid system development, and structured rapid prototyping. Some typical applications are: defining functional requirements, analyzing alternatives, modeling data, designing screens and reports, and planning implementation. This paper briefly lists a number of advantages and features of interactive design.
