About This Item

Full Description

Sets of dual and mixed media filters at the Fridley filter plant, a surface softening plant in Minneapolis, Minnesota, were subjected to fluidization and subfluidization backwashing rates. The author describes the effects of these rates on head loss, effluent turbidity, and length of filter run. Economic advantages of lower backwashing rates include energy savings, somewhat shorter filter runs, and smaller wash water tanks, backwash holding tanks, piping, and allied pumping systems. Includes 15 references, tables, figures.
