Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting the motivation for contamination warning systems and timely response, and an overview of threat ensemble vulnerability assessment (TEVA) Research Program. Case study goals presented include: identify response actions which could be implemented to minimize impacts given a contamination event; evaluate feasibility of various response actions to further development of a hydraulic response tool; provide input to development of a consequence management plan for the case study utility; and, develop a response tool which supports the selection of optimal response actions (flushing, valve closures, public notifications) given a contamination event. A summary of analysis states that: by simulating a range of contamination incidents within a pressure zone, average response options can be developed; preliminary results of average response options generally result in approximately a 1-2% decrease in the percent reduction of the impact measure from the optimal response solution; and, determining an average response option can be useful when the contamination source location is unknown and provides a means for developing pre-planned response strategies. Includes tables, figures.
