About This Item
Full Description
The standard covers the tasks of inspecting the hull of the vessel, both internally and externally. It requires the inspection of the deck and external hull. In all cases inspection should be carried out whilst the vessel is in-service and in dock.
The standard is intended to provide a core set of competences for inspection. It excludes any effects of specific coatings from named manufacturers or specifics for specialised vessels.
This standard assists shipowners in their responsibility towards the integrity of their vessels by obtaining timely and structured information on the condition of the hull.
The standard does NOT cover all competencies required to be qualified for the survey of ships. The standard focuses on the competences to inspect and report the condition of the hull. Any safety requirements needed to conduct the inspections therefore lie outside the scope of the standard.
Below, relevant quotes from the ISM Code and STCW 78, as amended are given.
