About This Item

Full Description

The scope of this specification is to define the guidance to ensure inter-operation with non-IP protocols and services or upper layer services as viewed within the context of the OSI reference model.

Purpose and Objectives

ARINC Specification 664: Aircraft Data Network (ADN), Part 8 – Interconnection with Non-IP Protocols and Services provides guidance for development of aeronautical applications and services other than those defined in the Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) family of protocols so they may be transported over the TCP/IP network. The primary focus of this effort is on the air/ground applications of the Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) (e.g., Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC), Air Data System (ADS), Flight Information System (FIS), and Context Management Application (CMA).

The purpose of Part 8 is to allow aeronautical applications to interface to the Transport layer of the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network architecture.

The main objectives for ATN applications are:

— Ensure co-existence between the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) ATN and AEEC TCP/IP networks and applications

Describe a migration architecture for the introduction of ICAO applications over TCP/IP
