About This Item

Full Description

The NETWK mathematical model was developed and used to analyze all components of the Charleston, South Carolina water distribution system in anticipation of improving the system to meet future demands. After limitations and deficiencies were identified, cost-effective improvements to mains and pipes, storage facilities, service pumps, and booster pumps were recommended. An improved operations program, which included a power management plan resulting in an estimated energy savings of $160,000 per year, was also determined with the computer model. The operations also included implementation of a telemetering network to a central monitoring station of key functions such as tank storage depths, pressures at critical locations, flows, pump operation, booster pump performance, and control-valve operation. Includes 5 references, tables, figures.
