This paper describes how to recognise and assess wall tie corrosion in the field. Ten photographs show typical cracking and spalling patterns. Other forms of deterioration, particularly sulphate attack and moisture movement, cause damage that can be confused with wall-tie failure.

Methods of inspection to confirm wall-tie problems are briefly covered but are described in more depth in Digest 329(DG329).
