About This Item

Full Description

This Data Item provides a mathematical relationship for determining the decelerating-force coefficient acting on a pneumatic tyre skidding on a dry, paved surface. The applicable surfaces include those constructed of asphalt, macadam, Portland Cement Concrete, glass and epoxy resin.

The empirical models were derived from experiments conducted on cross-ply (Type VII) tyres as part of a detailed study of the mechanical properties of aircraft tyres.

The modelling described in ESDU TM 202, entitled 'ESDU tyre modelling – rubber block forces', for the static decelerating-force coefficient on rubber blocks is the starting point from which a model for pneumatic tyres is developed.

Although the model was developed using data from cross-ply tyres, it is most likely appropriate to use it for all modes of construction of aircraft tyre.
