About This Item

Full Description

ESDU 82031 provides force and moment coefficients for use primarily in estimating mean wind loading on stationary or slow moving paraboloidal reflectors such as are used for microwave communications antennas, radio telescopes and solar energy concentrators. The data may also be used to estimate the mean loading induced by other gas or liquid flows over paraboloidal shapes. The data apply for solid or perforated-surfaced paraboloidal antennas with focal length/diameter ratios between 0.15 and 0.5 and with minimal backup and support structures. The effects of backup and support structures and of other nearby antennas are discussed briefly. Also discussed are the effects of turbulence, shear flow and hysteresis of the flow. A Calculation Sheet provides a step-by-step procedure for calculating the basic forces and moments in a body-axis system and a method and equations for conversion to other axis systems are also provided.
