This specification covers the material and performance requirements for a temporary paper informational label, and a temporary/permanent clear informational label that can be decorative as well as functional. Neither label should yellow during UV exposure. Both labels are intended primarily for use on the interior of the vehicle (inside glass).

Material Description. This specification comprises Types IA, IB, IIA, IIB and IIC labels.

Type IA. White paper stock, coated or uncoated, material with a weight of at least 68.5 g/m². (>40 lb stock).

Label comes with a removable, pressure sensitive adhesive which will not etch glass. Minimum adhesive thickness shall be 0.025 mm.

Typical usage is for information purposes such as notice to buyer information, mileage accumulation, etc.

Type IB. White paper stock (coated or uncoated, for computer generated text and designed for a specific printer. Weight of this paper stock shall be at least 68.5 g/m². (>40 lb. stock).

Labels come with a pressure sensitive adhesive, which will not etch glass, with a thickness of 0.025 mm.

Label stock and adhesive must be compatible to specific printers and must not yellow in short term exposure.

Printing for both Types IA and IB can be either readable from the interior of the vehicle or readable through the glass from the exterior.

Both Type IA and IB labels are for temporary purposes only

Type IIA. Labels are for either temporary or permanent applications and are composed either of a single ply subsurface printed polyester film. Adhesive for this type label shall be a super clear non-yellowing pressure sensitive adhesive with a minimum thickness of 0.025 mm. These labels can be used for information purposes such as roadside assistance labels.

Type IIB. Labels are for either temporary or permanent applications and are a super clear surface printed polyester film with a super clearcoat or laminate overlay. Adhesive for this type label shall be a super clear non-yellowing pressure sensitive adhesive with a minimum thickness of 0.025 mm.

Type IIA and IIB labels shall meet GMLS-001-13.

Type IIC. These labels are for permanent applications. These type labels consists of two polyester layers, totaling 0.075 to 0.11 mm thick, with an opaque barrier in the middle. Printing is both first and second surface. A clear coat or laminate is added to the first surface for added abrasion resistance. Type IIC labels are used for child security lock designations.

Type IIC labels shall meet GMLS-001-6.

Type III. These labels are temporary/permanent type labels which require no adhesive but adhere to automobile glass and plastics by a static cling mechanism which is a function of the label material.
