1 Scope

This standard covers the testing of convoluted or ribbed elastomeric molded ducts intended for use on automotive engine air induction systems.

This standard describes equipment and proce dures capable of rank ordering and/or optimizing materials of component design performance under test conditions simulating the intended application as closely as practical.

1.1 Material Description

1.1.1 Material Identification. Part suppliers must identify their ducts by material, cure system (if ap propriate), and process codes. Parts should be identified using the following:

1.1.1.1 Use ISO 16292 designations to identify thermoplastic elastomers and ISO 1629 for rubber based polymers.

1.1.1.2 Identify the cure system for the released thermoset rubber using the following codes:

Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer (EPDM): 1 -Sulfur 2 -Peroxide 3 -Other Epichlorohydrin (ECO): 1 -Non Lead ETU 2 -Peroxide 3 -Thiadiazole 4 -Other Chlorinated Polyethylene (CM): 1 -Peroxide 2 -Thiadiazole 3 -Other
