ENGLISH HISTORICAL VERSION

Note: Nothing in this standard supercedes applicable laws and regulations.

Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence.

This specification covers sunscreen lotion resistance requirements for an interior, waterborne or solventborne, one or two component paint system for use on parts made of thermoplastic polyolefins and polypropylenes. Paint systems that pass the requirements of this specification must first pass the requirements of GMW14867 to be approved to this specification.

Material Description. Paint Feel Paint systems approved to this specification shall be required to carry a type suffix to indicate the haptic feel that it has to the human skin. The suffix system shall be as follows:

• Type A: Soft Touch

• Type B: Fabric Feel

• Type C: Hard Touch

• Type D: Semi-Soft Touch

Symbols. Not applicable.

Typical Applications. Not applicable.

Remarks. Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) and polypropylene substrates can be pretreated by priming, fluorination, chlorination, plasma, etc. A single pretreatment is required to achieve full paint approval. The paint approval shall be linked to the specific pretreatment as listed on MATSPC. Other pretreatments using the specific approved paint may also be approved but must be shown to pass sunscreen lotion and insect repellent testing and all adhesion tests per GMW14867. Adhesion tests after xenon exposure will also be mandatory. This shall be a separate approval on MATSPC.

Currently priming is not allowed at GME. The direction at General Motors is to eliminate, in all regions, the use of solvent based adhesion promoters or primers for use on TPO and polypropylene (PP) parts prior to 2015. It will be mandatory for all topcoat systems, approved under this specification, that use solvent-based primers to be requalified and approved using alternate substrate pretreatments.
