About This Item

Full Description

This standard includes the following items that define an acceptable plutonium internal dosimetry program:

1. Design and setup of a bioassay program.

2. Selection of individuals for participation in the bioassay program.

3. Interpretation of bioassay measurements with a focus on the biokinetic models established in ICRP publications ICRP 67 (ICRP 1994a), Appendix B; and ICRP 68 (ICRP 1995), 72 (ICRP 1996b) and 78 (ICRP 1998).

4. Guidelines for medical intervention in the case of large intakes.

This standard addresses the evaluation of possible plutonium intakes using the methodologies and philosophies of ICRP publications 60 (ICRP 1991), 66 (ICRP 1994b), 68 (ICRP 1995a), and 78 (ICRP 1998). This standard does not specifically incorporate the methodologies and philosophies previously developed in ICRP publications 26 (ICRP 1977) and 30 (ICRP 1979, 1988a), although these are discussed in Appendices A and B.

Purpose

This standard defines the elements needed to establish an internal dosimetry program used to monitor individuals who may be occupationally exposed to plutonium.
