About This Item

Full Description

A major northwest frozen food processor is in the early stages of developing geothermal energy to replace .54% of its fossil fuel requirements. Lower temperature process water will be heated by retrofitting to geothermal energy. The planned geothermal system includes two production wells, a transmission main, a complex of plate heat exchangers, and a deep injection well. The cascade principle will be employed to extract the majority of usable energy from the geothermal water. The 3-yr development project includes geological exploration, conceptual and final design, water quality analysis, and corrosion control through materials selection, existing process equipment retrofit, environmental impact assessment, and an economic evaluation of the geothermal system when the project is complete.
