Part 1 of-this "ES describes the pwpose and the general procedure to be adopted for Final Electrical Inspections (FEI) in new construction Surface Warships and Auxiliary Vessels.

The generai format of the FEI set out in this NES may require modification for special application vessels.

The use of the term "Shipbuilder" is to be applied as necessary to whoever is building the Vessel, whether it be a Prime Contractor, Shipbuilder, Sub-contractor or any company or organization with whom the MOD has a contract.

PURPOSE

The purpose of an FEI is to check by document audit, inspection and test that the vessel's electrical systems and equipment have been installed and tested correctly by the Shipbuilder in order to:

Assess the standard achieved and, jointly with the Principal Naval Overseer (PNO), advise the Shipbuilder of items needing attention to achieve the required standard at acceptance.

Make recommendations to the Shipbuilder regarding the actions to be taken to prevent shortcomings in 'follow-on' vessels and documentation.

Make recommendations to the appropriate Design Authority for action required to overcome design shortcomings.
