Full Description

CANC S/S BY DEF STAN 81-3

This Standard specifies requirements for six different styles of reusable case for the packaging of MOD materiel of up to 3000 kg mass.

The Styles cover three variations in construction;

a) Style 1, 2 and 3 cases are of batten and board, nailed construction and screwed assembly.

b) Style 4 and 5 cases are of battened plywood panel, nailed construction and screwed assembly.

c) Style 6 cases are of battened plywood panel, nailed and screwed construction and screwed and bolted assembly.

Each style may be modified to produce (a) a "Top Hat" construction and/or (b) to include either Forklift battens or a Pallet base. Handles or lifting straps may be added according to case gross mass criteria.

The suppliers of a wooden case, that differs in construction from the specification described in this Defence Standard (including materials, fasteners, lifting aids etc), must ensure that the case has been tested as fit for the purpose intended.
