About This Item

Full Description

CANC S/S BY DEF STAN 81-146

This Standard specifies the requirements for Static Dissipative Low Density Polyethylene Foam for packaging applications. The foam is used for locating an otherwise unprotected electrostatic sensitive item in a container.

There are two types;

a) Type 1; for General packaging

b) Type 2 ‘QX’; typically, this is used in the packaging of certain munitions susceptible to an electrostatic charge.

Note: The difference is the limited list of permitted antioxidants for Type 2 in Annex A.

Type 2 material may be suitable for certain applications where compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications through TA (Pkg) to ESTC via Sec MPMWG, DES WpnsEng-Pkg1, Weapons Operating Centre (WOC) Engineering Team, Fir 3b, #4304, MOD Abbey Wood South, Bristol; Ext: 030 679 344479. Further information may be obtained from Defence Standard 13-102: Testing of Materials which are Required to be Compatible with Explosives.
