About This Item

Full Description

TIA-568.2-D-2 * ANSI APPROVED

This Addendum provides requirements and guidelines that support a wide variety of safety extra low voltage (SELV) limited power source (LPS) applications using remote power supplied over balanced twisted-pair cabling for current not exceeding 1000 mA per pair. Examples of such applications include LAN devices, wireless access points, and ANSI/TIA-862-B intelligent building systems devices (e.g. remote cameras, IP telephone, multimedia devices) which may be supported by standards such as IEEE Std 802.3 or IEEE Std 1394.

This Addendum covers the transmission and electrical parameters needed to support power over category 5e or higher 4-pair balanced twisted-pair cabling. The requirements and guidelines cover different cable categories, cable types, installation and operating conditions including pathways and bundling. This Addendum provides requirements and guidelines for design, installation, and administration for effective deployment of remote powering over balanced twisted-pair cabling. This Addendum provides requirements and guidelines with respect to:

a) parameters needed for remote powering;

b) different installation conditions that require special considerations;

c) application considerations;

d) mitigation considerations; and

e) cabling configurations and related field test considerations.

The cabling systems detailed in this Addendum are designed to support SELV LPS power, as defined in IEC 60950-1. Safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements are outside the scope of this Addendum. Consult applicable codes and regulations for safety information.

NOTE SELV requirements specify a maximum voltage of 60 Vdc and LPS is understood in the applications referenced to be up to 100 VA supplied within 4-pair cabling.
