About This Item

Full Description

On January 1, 1991, Colorado began issuing Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDL). All drivers of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) who apply for a driver's license have to qualify under state and federal requirements. As of April 1, 1992, every driver of a CMV must have a CDL with the appropriate classes and endorsements. The classes refer to the gross weights including cargo of the vehicles being driven. Endorsements and restrictions indicate kinds of cargo (hazardous, bulk, liquid, etc.), instate/out of state travel, air brake, passenger, school bus and number of trailers. The Denver Water Department's current policy and steps being taken to comply with the new requirement are discussed.
