Full Description

In this study, the photocatalysis process using a nano-sized TiO2 catalyst was evaluated for natural organic matter (NOM) removal and membrane fouling control. Various doses of TiO2 photocatalysts were used to treat waters containing up to 10 mg/L total organic carbon (TOC). Fouling behaviors of a microfiltration (MF) and an ultrafiltration (UF) membrane were assessed before and after photocatalysis treatment using a low intensity submerged ultraviolet (UV) lamp. Relative effects on NOM removal of individual processes involved, i.e., UV oxidation, TiO2 adsorption and UV/TiO2 photocatalytic oxidation were evaluated. Includes 9 references, figures.
