About This Item

Full Description

Preface:

This is the second edition of CSA C22.2 No. 166, Stage and studio luminaires, one of a series of Standards issued by CSA Group under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. This edition supersedes the previous edition, published in 1983. This Standard also replaces the following Technical Information Letter (TIL), for products covered in this Standard: TIL No. B-42A, "Interim Certification Requirements for Guarding of Stage and Studio Non-Lensed Luminaires Using Tungsten-Halogen Lamps".

For general information on the Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, see the Preface of CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0, General requirements — Canadian Electrical Code, Part II.

Scope:

1.1
This Standard applies to portable and stationary stage and studio luminaires, integrated controls, and power supplies of all types suitable for use in dry, damp, or wet locations, intended for use in nonhazardous locations and for connection to a supply circuit of 600 V or less between conductors, and designed to be installed and used in accordance with CSA C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code, Part I (CE Code, Part I).

1.2
This Standard does not apply to external power supplies for discharge lamps.

1.3
The equipment covered in this Standard is not intended for household use.
Note: See Table 7.1, Item 8, for the corresponding marking.

1.4
In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (nonmandatory) to define their application.

1.5
The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only.
