Full Description

This Technical Memorandum has been prepared to demonstrate that the modelling of force coefficients as deduced from readings of the British Pendulum, as determined in ESDU TM 201, entitled ‘British Pendulum Use in modelling decelerating-force coefficients’, is generally applicable. Results from the ESDU model are compared with data covering a broad range of temperatures from experiments reported by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, which were sufficient to accommodate the practical requirements for the use of the pendulum. Values of the coefficient of decelerating force were deduced from these experimental measurements. The ESDU model for determining values of the coefficient incorporate rebound resilience and a mean sharpness parameter value. Results predicted by the model are shown to correspond closely to the values deduced from experimental measurements.
