ETSI TS 102 853 specifies procedures for establishing whether an electronic signature is technically valid based on the considerations specified in the present document and the validation constraints are applied to the verification procedures. These constraints may be specified as part of a formal signature policy.

It is outside the scope of the present document as to whether a signature is accepted by the relying party and specifically if it bears legal validity.
