About This Item

Full Description

Building codes are the minimum requirements for buildings. Building codes include the model building codes for the United States with states, counties and cities adopting either their own or different versions of the model building codes.
In addition to a state or local government establishing a set of building regulations, specific agencies or departments within a federal, state or local government may develop a building code for its buildings. Examples of this include federal military facilities, some state education departments and some school boards. In many states, the department of education has compiled its own building code applicable only to school buildings within its jurisdiction. The building code for educational facilities may have different or additional requirements from building codes for other buildings within the same jurisdiction.
