BEYOND REVIEW DATE

This Defence Standard (DEF STAN) 02-530 covers the design and construction of Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) Switchgear used in the Electrical Supply and Distribution Systems for HM Surface Ships and Submarines.

For this Standard the following definitions apply: a. LV is defined as voltages up to 1 kV ac or 1.5 kV dc; b. HV is defined as any working voltage that exceeds 1 kV ac (rms) or 1.5 kV dc, measured between any two circuit conductors or between a circuit conductor and earth.

The particular equipments covered are as follows:

Main Supply Switchboards;

Circuit Breakers;

Distribution Switchboards;

Control Boards;

Change-Over Switches (COS).

The particular requirements for equipments covered by this Standard will be given in the System Requirement Document (SRD) which will accompany a contract or Invitation to Tender.

This Standard does not apply to switchboards manufactured in Glass Reinforced Plastic materials or to Switchboards designed for low magnetic content. For information on these forms of construction refer to DEF STAN 02701 Parts 1, 2 and 3 and the SRD for the Switchboard.

The Design Authority is directed to pay particular attention to the 'Check List' given in Annex C. The list is intended to provide an aide-memoire to the designer regarding features specific to the equipment. It also lists options to assist the Standard user in identifying which option of a group is to be used and indicates where the text requires additional data to be added by the Design Sponsor, e.g. performance levels.
