This Def Stan, in conjunction with the documents referred to herein, specifies the general policy requirements and is intended to provide general design guidance for the Alarm and Warning Systems for all electronic systems (weapon, combat, communication, navigation and standalone machinery systems etc.) fitted to all MOD vessels (Surface Ships, Submarines, Boats, Landing Craft, OPVs, Auxiliaries etc.).

It outlines needs for Alarms and Warnings, and where provision and positioning is to be made together with various types of visual and audible indication, including IPMS via a console mounted display, Machinery Control And Surveillance (MCAS) via an equipment mounted display, an annunciator panel, a single indicator lamp mounted on a console or on equipment or a portable handheld device.
