Energy storage can promote the load shifting potential for effective renewable energy consumption, thereby achieving zero-carbon buildings. Residential buildings are a type of buildings that have higher demands on electric appliances with energy storage, especially unplugged for convenience, and higher energy consumption. Compared with the fixed ones, the battery attached to the electric appliances does not need additional space, has lower design concerns on the danger issues, and can be more acceptable for the users. If this related potential can be quantitatively evaluated and considered in the building energy operation management, both the cost and space for battery allocation can be saved in the future design. In this paper, we conducted an investigation on the current situation of energy storage of electric appliances for residential buildings to collect data on related parameters, such as the categories of these equipment, the electricity capacity of energy storage, market price, and value added with increased energy storage and so on. And then we conducted a user survey online to find the preference for different electric appliances for residential buildings. In contrast to the current situation in the first investigation, we can include the future potential of energy storage of electric appliances for residential uses and the preference and sensitivity of price for energy storage. This study can help to investigate the energy storage potential of electric appliances for residential uses and may provide a reference for product development in the related field.
